Bonding with Baby

From 3 to 7 months

During this session, both parents and their baby enter the water together for a quiet period of privacy to reflect, and to bond as a family unit.

Please allow one hour for this session which is £125 and includes:

  • Weighing -  we weigh your baby should you require this for your records

  • Sole use of our change area for your privacy

  • Hydrotherapy in a warm pool for both parents and baby

  • Induced relaxation by movement in water

  • Enjoy close and unhurried together time

  • Demonstration of the various ways to hold your baby safely in the water for movement and play   

  • Plenty of time to observe and learn your baby’s reaction to the nature of water such as buoyancy, pressure, temperature and it’s tactile stimulation

  • Guidance for parents in how to stimulate swimming reflexes at home to make practices easier when swim lessons begin

  • Warm towels to dry off

  • Baby massage at the end of the pool session using organic grapeseed oil

After your session, take time to relax and enjoy a complimentary tea in our sitting room while you nurse or feed your baby.

Sessions typically take place on Saturdays from 2pm – 4pm.  Should you wish to attend outside of these hours, please contact us and we’ll do our best to accommodate alternative days and times.

Prenatal Hydro Relax

Suitable at any stage of your pregnancy

Every woman has a different experience during pregnancy and many women can experience radical differences with each pregnancy.

The body endures many changes during pregnancy, these can vary from mild twinges to heaviness or discomfort, fatigue, body aches and weight gain to name a few. Prenatal Hydro Relax at Baby Spa is an effective way of combating these symptoms which can then be managed with positive benefits.

Water creates buoyancy and offers support when pregnant and provides a sense of weightlessness taking pressure off the pelvic floor and joints. It can also help reduce back ache and ‘puffiness’.

You have a choice of participating in gentle exercise at an appropriate pace with stretching or opt to merely enjoy a float, stretch out, relax and meditate. We have floatation devices to provide assistance with floatation for you to use.

Session benefits:

  • Gentle exercise can be enjoyed without fear of falling, overheating or putting your baby at risk.

  • You can stretch more efficiently in warm water.

  • Water supports your body, thus reducing gravity.

  • Water supports your weight, helping to relieve discomfort and helps increase the range of movement of your joints.

  • Hydrostatic pressure naturally increases circulation which can decrease swelling in your legs, ankles and feet.

  • Buoyancy in water can be rejuvenating, increasing energy and flexibility.

  • Hydro exercise can strength the pelvic floor to prepare for birth.

  • Warm water relaxes muscles and the nervous system too helping to promote sound sleep.

  • Time in the water can improve your overall mood, energy and mental health.

  • Strengthening and toning exercises during pregnancy require different muscle groups.  Water provides low-impact alternatives to traditional exercise

Session Details

  • Participate in gentle exercise at an appropriate pace with stretching or

  • Opt to merely enjoy a float, stretch out, relax and meditate, or

  • A combination of both gentle exercise and relaxation.

  • Floatation devices are provided.

  • Enjoy a complimentary herbal tea after your session.

  • Single or group sessions for up to two people.

  • Morning and afternoon sessions available.

  • All session are lead by a registered osteopath with extensive pre and post natal experience.

Q. What if I can’t swim?

A. You don’t have to be able to swim to benefit from hydro relax. You will be accompanied by a trained professional. The pool water is chest height.

Q. What do I bring?

A. Swimming apparel and a towel.

Swim to Learn

From 7 months upwards

These classes are 30-minute weekly swimming lessons in our pool with no more than 3 babies and a qualified instructor. Four lessons are purchased in advanced which covers a month of swimming.

Swimming lessons for babies should be on-going for your baby to make steady progress but we offer flexibility in that, should your situation change, you need not continue the next month. All that is required is a 2-week notice period.

Swim to Learn lessons at Baby Spa are for babies from 7 months upwards.

  • Although our work is focused on babies, we care about your comfort as much as your baby’s.

  • With 59 years of experience behind us, we guide you through to feeling relaxed and secure when partnering your baby in learning to swim. Your baby will relax when you are comfortable.

  • We will demonstrate basic holds, dynamic moves and explain safe entries and exits.

  • We use rhythm and song which encourages playful interaction within the group.

  • We take time to explain the elements of submersion – when they are appropriate and which techniques should be selected according to your baby’s individual needs.

  • We recognise and respect individual needs and initiate careful attention to provide appropriate response to your baby’s communication shown by cues and body language.

You will be partnering in your baby’s Learn to Swim journey in the pool until they are ready to swim alone with an instructor at around 2 years of age.
